About
Who I Am
Hey there, my name is Shaheer! I’m a 20 year old Computer Engineering Student attending the University of Waterloo. I was born in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 and have lived here my whole life but hold Pakistani 🇵🇰 heritage through my parents, and am incredibly proud to partake in both cultures.
I’ve already completed three internships where I have gained valuable skills about software development. Some areas that spark my interest is full stack and backend development 👨🏽💻, artificial intelligence 🦾, machine learning ⚙️, as well as quantitative finance🏦. I would love to continue my growth in these fields through work experience or making my own projects in order to create unique and effective solutions to whatever problem may come in the way. I aspire to become a Software Engineer after graduation and always looking for opportunities to invigorate my entire skillset along the way!
Some things about me is that I love to play sports. My two favourite sports are Soccer ⚽️ and Basketball 🏀. I’m a huge Manchester United fan as well as a supporter of my local Toronto Raptors. I love to play basketball with my friends, as it’s a great way to destress and socialize. I also participated in my university’s basketball intramural league. I used to play competitive soccer for my hometown club where I was deployed as a winger but was used to playing multiple positions when needed. This experience helped me gain a valuable lesson about being a team player and doing what the team needs to succeed even if it’s not of my preference 👏. Sports are an integral part of my life as it taught me a lot of lessons, and has helped me increase my mental focus and critical thinking skills 💭, as you’re continuously forced to make decisions on your feet on how to tackle whatever challenge the game may bring to you.
One of my favourite hobbies is playing video games 🎮! Some of my favourite video games are FIFA, Call of Duty, and NBA 2K. I was able to work with Unity, which was really cool as I was able to see how game engines work and the development that goes into making video games. I love to go travelling ✈️ as well and have been to 🇲🇽🇺🇸🇪🇸🇹🇷🇮🇹🏴🇵🇰🇸🇦🇦🇪 and wish to see the rest of the world 🌎 one day. I love to learn about different cultures and immerse myself in their diversity. I am also a huge fan of music 🎧, some of my favourite genres are R&B, hip hop, and rap. Some of my favourite artists are Travis Scott, Dave, and The Weeknd. I would love to learn how to compose music myself and have previously played the tenor sax 🎷and am currently learning the piano 🎹.

What I Bring
Time Management
I have excellent time management skills. Creating daily schedules, outlining tasks needed to be completed for the day, has helped me stay very organized and punctual. As a result, I am able to work proficiently and finish tasks with greater effort and ability.
Interpersonal
I consider myself to be an outgoing person, and love to meet new people. I am able to communicate and interact effectively with my peers in a respectful manner. I have been in leadership roles, where my interpersonal skills have helped me send a message across resulting in the team performing more effectively.
Programming
I first started coding in High School using Java and then learned C++ in my first semester of University. Since then I have gone on to learn a vast amount of languages and continue to seek more ways to improve my Programming skills. I am versatile and have experience with Python, PHP, C, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL, HTML and CSS.
Hardworking
I am a very hardworking person, and put in extra effort to strive for whatever goal I set my mind to. Whenever phased with a challenge, I don't back down, and will devise a plan to hurdle whatever obstacles I may face.

Software Engineer Intern
Carta
- Led end-to-end overhaul of fintech product to assist law firms in closing fundraises for startups.
- Worked directly with clients (lawyers), business developers, designers, product managers to drive project to completion.
- Utilized Django in unison with Domain Driven Design to build out backend and isolate business logic
- Built out frontend using TypeScript and React, with numerous jest-tests to significantly increase code coverage.
Research Assistant
University of Waterloo
- Researched error prevention in Java to prototype semantic search and SARIF file support with Dr. Werner Dietl.
Software Engineer Intern
ReBlink
- Worked on building backend platform with the use of Laravel (PHP) from end-to-end. This involved designing database schemas, setting up relationships, creating their models, and controllers for the endpoints.
- Learned more about blockchain through integration of wallets and working with the ETH chain.
- Leveraged tools such as AWS to run serverless deployments of the application.
- Integrated web APIs into Unity, being able to leverage Unity as a frontend from any backend platform of our choice.
Lead Backend Developer

- Working on an algorithmic trading app in Python to visualize past data, efficacy of models, and monitor triggers.
- Implementing API endpoints with Flask, to allow users to view real-time financial stock data.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams including ML, frontend to drive this project to completion.

- Exposed to how we can combine technology with neuroscience to create speech solutions for those who suffer from diseases that restrict them from communicating to others.
- I utilized C# and Unity to help develop front end features as well as improve backend processes, as well as using other technologies such as Azure and AWS!
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams including designers, product managers, and other developers to create high-quality products.
- Participating in code reviews and providing constructive feedback to other developers.

- This was my first co-op during university, this experience helped me gain my first insight on working in the software industry.
- I got to work on several automation scripts using Python and make device code changes with C in a Linux environment.
- I participated in Agile methodologies alongside others to complete tasks. This experience helped me gain insight on working in the software industry.

Discovery Crate
- Co-Founded Discovery Crate, a start-up that creates international-themed mystery snack boxes curated from local small businesses, in order to support them during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Conducted market research through surveys and cold-calling to validate business idea.
- Used project management skills such as creating a budgeting plan and managed other finances.
- Generated hundreds in revenue and won Best Pitch award over 250+ competitors.
